Feed.

Everyone poops. Even girl dogs. *Gasp*

And sometimes they have tummy troubles, too.

Unfortunately, we had one of those unexpected multiple-poop-bags kind of walks this past week. Thankfully I had this bland diet recipe saved so I decided to give it a try. Within ONE day of feeding it, Luna was back to normal.

So the next time your dog has some tummy troubles, give this a try:

Dr. Judy’s bland diet

Instructions from Dr. Judy Morgan:

  1. Melt coconut oil or olive oil

  2. Sauté 4 oz of portobello mushrooms

  3. Sauté 1 lb ground low-fat turkey (can substitute with pork or rabbit)

  4. Grab a large bowl

  5. Add in 12 oz mashed pumpkin (can substitute with mashed apples)

  6. Add in 1 tsp grated fresh ginger root

  7. Mix all ingredients together

She recommends feeding small quantities multiple times per day until normal stool is observed and to feed the meal warm, not cold from the refrigerator.

My least favorite C-word. The one all dog parents fear.

Cancer.

When I sat down with Dr. Kendra Pope, board-certified veterinary oncologist, and she told me, “The only cure to cancer is prevention,” I had a lot of questions.

One of which being what foods we should totally avoid feeding to our dogs — and, I’ll be honest, you may not like her answer:

Buy.

Slowly but surely I’ve been making small changes around our house to ensure we’re using safer cleaning products. Not just for the dog, but also for us. Humans matter too, ya know?!

So you can imagine my face when I discovered that all of my beloved Kirkland Signature cleaning products from Costco received a D-rating or F-rating.

Environmental Working Group has quickly become my holy grail to check all of the products we use around the house. And spoiler alert: apparently “free and gentle” means absolutely nothing these days. Yes, I’m looking at you, Tide.

To save you some time, here are two brands that I’ve switched to recently:

  1. Molly’s Suds

  2. Aunt Fannie’s

P.S. - EWG’s database doesn’t have every product, but you can use their Build Your Own Report tool to get an approximate score for your product if it’s not in there.

Recap.

Did you read the cancer prevention notes and think to yourself, “Welp. This all feels totally impossible” or “Damn, that seems like a lot of work”?

Before you start feeling discouraged about what you’re currently feeding, I want to let you know:

I HAVE A SOLUTION FOR YOU!

Here's the thing — there’s a huge gap in the fresh dog food industry.

When I first started Luna’s fresh food journey, I had to spend MONTHS researching. I felt so overwhelmed by the endless amounts of courses, videos, books, blogposts, Facebook groups, and millions of social media posts I needed to sift through.
