BALTIMORE – UMBC head men's soccer coach Anthony Adams has unveiled the highly anticipated schedule for the 2024 season.
"We've put together an extremelycompetitiveand challenging schedule," Adams stated."We have somereallytoughout-of-conference opponents, and the America East Conference will be strongerthan ever.The fans will see some great games at Retriever Soccer Park this fall."
The Retrievers are gearing up for an electrifying season, poised to compete against one of the most challenging schedules they have faced in program history. Seven of their opponents have participated in the NCAA Tournament over the past two seasons. With 11 of their 17 games set to take place under the lights at Retriever Soccer Park, including a thrilling four-game home stand to kick off the season,the team is primed and ready for the challenge.
This season is not just about the matches. The Dawgs will alsobe commemorating some significant milestones. Join us as wepay tribute to the 25th anniversary of the 1999 Northeast Conference Championship squad and the 10th anniversary of the 2014 squad that made it to the NCAA College Cup Semifinals. Both teams will be honored and celebrated at halftime of the Vermont game on October 26.
The campaign will open on Thursday, August 22, when local rival Maryland visits RSP, while the Retrievers will entertain Howard on Monday, August 26, for UMBC Student Life Move-In Day.
The Dawgs will host two games in the UMBC/Navy Tournament versus MAAC finalists Niagara and former NEC rival Fairleigh Dickinson on August 30 and September 2.
A challenging stretch will follow as the black and gold will play four of their next five games away from home. The journey begins with a contest at Old Dominion on September 6, followed by a return home onSeptember 13 against St. Joseph's. Then, it's off to American (September 17), Cornell (September 21), and Binghamton (September 28), offering a diverse range of styles of play.
October will bring a seriesof home games, a time for the Retriever faithful to come together and show their support. The stretch startsas Drexel travels south on October 1, followed by a conference game versus UMass Lowell (October 5) and a local interest game versus 2023 NCAA Tournament participant Georgetown (October 8). The homestand concludes with a matchup against conference rival UAlbany (October 12), making it a crucial period for the team.
UMBC will then play three straight matches against 2023 NCAA Tournament participants. America East regular-season champion New Hampshire, who finished ninth in the country a season ago, will host the Retrievers on October 19. Vermont, who finished fourteenth in the final polls, will visit Baltimore on October 26. The Dawgs will finish the challenging gauntlet at America East Tournament champion Bryant on November 1.
The regular season will conclude on November 5 when the Retrievers entertain NJIT.
