Pokémon: How to Evolve an Eevee (2024)

The Pokémon Eevee isa fan-favorite for both its adorable appearance and its incredible evolutionary potential. Known as the Evolution Pokémon, Eevee has eight potential final forms -- dubbed "Eeveelutions" by fans. Each onehas a different typing, strengths, weaknesses, abilities and movesets, as well as a different method for obtaining it.

Originally, Eevee had only three evolutions: Vaporeon, Flareon and Jolteon. However, as the series progressed, Eevee was able to take advantage of newly introduced game mechanics to transform into new forms. While some of them have changed along with Pokémon game mechanics, the Eeveelutions have remained popular. Here's how to evolve an Eevee into every possible Eeveelution.

Vaporeon

Vaporeon, the Bubble Jet Pokémon, is a Water-type introduced in Generation I. Kanto's Pokédex says, "Its cell structure is similar to water molecules. It melts into the water and becomes invisible." Eevee evolves into Vaporeon when exposed to a Water Stone. Vaporeon's normal ability is Water Absorb, which allows it to restore health instead of losing it when hit with a Water-type move. It can alsohave the hidden ability Hydration, allowing Vaporeon to recover from status conditions when it is raining. Upon evolving, Vaporeon learnsWater Gun, and it also has access to Muddy Water, Waterfall and Hydro Pump.

Jolteon

Another of the original Eeveelutions, the Electric-type Jolteon isknown as the LightningPokémon. Kanto'sPokédex describes it as "asensitive Pokémon that easily becomes sad or angry. Every time its mood changes, it charges power." Obtaining Jolteon is as easy as exposing Eevee to a Thunder Stone. Its normal ability Volt Absorb is similar to Vaporeon's, allowing it to recover some HP when hit by an Electric-type move. Jolteon's hidden ability isQuick Feet, which boosts its Speed stat by 50 percent when it is affected by a status condition. Upon evolving, Jolteon learns Thunder Shock, and it can learn other Electric-type moves such as Thunder Fang, Discharge and Thunder.

The last of the original Eeveelutions,Flareon is known as the Flame Pokémon. According to the Kanto Pokédex, "It has a flame chamber inside its body. It inhales, then breathes out fire that is over 3,000 degrees Fahrenheit." To evolve a Flareon, use a Fire Stone on Eevee. Flash Fire, its primary ability, makes it immune to Fire-type damage and powers up Flareon's own Fire-type moves if it's hit by one. Its hidden ability Guts boosts the Pokémon's Attack stat by 50 percent if it is affected by a status ailment. When Eeveeevolves into Flareon, it learns Ember. It also can learn a host of new moves, including Fire Fang, Lava Plume and Flamethrower.

Espeon

Introduced in Generation II, Espeon is a Psychic-type known as the Sun Pokémon. This is a reference to its evolutionary method, which requires trainers to increase Eevee's friendship, then level it up during the daytime. Giving Eevee a Soothe Bell will help speed up the process, as this itemboosts friendship gains by 50 percent.Espeon's ability is Synchronize, which allows it to copy burn, poison or paralysis to their opponentwhen one of these conditions is inflicted onEspeon. Its hidden ability Magic Bounce reflects status effects back atEspeon'sopponent. When it evolves,EspeonlearnsConfusion, and it can learn other Psychic-type moves like Psychic and Future Sight.

Umbreon

Espeon's foil, Umbreon, is the Moonlight Pokémon. This is a Dark-type also introduced in Gen II with a very similar evolutionary method. Like Espeon, it requires a high friendship level, though it must be leveled up at night. Umbreon has the same regular ability as Espeon with Synchronize,however, its hidden ability is Inner Focus. This protectsUmbreon from flinching in battle.When it evolves, Umbreonlearns Snarl, and ithas access to otherDark-type moves like Assurance and Dark Pulse.

Leafeon

Introduced in Generation IV,Leafeon is a Grass-type known as the Verdant Pokémon. From its introduction until Generation VII, Leafeon could be obtained by leveling up Eevee near a Moss Rock located somewhere in each region. This would take priority over any other Eeveelution regardless of the conditions met. However, Generation VIII replaced this mechanic with a simple Leaf Stone, bringing Leafeon in line with the Gen I evolutions.

Leafeon's primary ability is Leaf Guard, which protects Leafeon from status conditions when in harsh sunlight. Its hidden ability is Chlorophyll, which boosts Leafeon's speed in harsh sunlight. Leafeon learns Razor Leafwhen it evolves and gains access to Grass-type moves like Giga Drain and Leaf Blade.

Glaceon

Glaceon is Eevee's Ice-type evolution introducedalongside Leafeon. Just like its counterpart, Glaceon used to be obtained by leveling Eevee up near an Ice Rock. However, this was replaced in Gen VIII with the Ice Stone. Glaceon's ability, Snow Cloak, boostsits evasiveness during hail. It also has use outside of battle, as (when leading the party) it reduces the odds of encountering wild Pokémon in areas with hail, even if Glaceon has fainted. Its hidden ability Ice Body allows Glaceon to recovers 1/16 of its HP at the end of each turn during a hail storm. Glaceon learns Icy Wind upon evolving and can learn Ice-type moves like Ice Shard and Blizzard.

Sylveon

Sylveon, the Intertwining Pokémon, was introduced in Generation VI alongsde the new Fairy-type. In Generations VI and VII, Eevee'sAffection level influenced its evolution.Trainers could play with and feed their Pokémon in Pokémon-Amie, and raising Eevee to two hearts, teaching it a Fairy-type move and leveling it up would result in Eevee evolving into Sylveon. Eevee learns Baby-Doll Eyes at an early level (nine in Gens VI and VII, 15 in Gen VIII),and can also learn Charm at a much later level or via TM.

Generation VIII replaced Pokémon-Amie with camping, so Sylveon's evolutionary method changed to be more like that of the Gen II Eevelutions: level Eevee up with high friendship while knowing a Fairy-type move. Sylveon'sability is Cute Charm, which can cause Pokémon that make contact with it to become infatuated. Pixilate is its hidden ability, which causes any Normal-type moves it uses to become Fairy-type moves, granting them a same-type attack boost. Sylveon learns Disarming Voice once it evolves and can learn Fairy-type moves like Draining Kiss and Moonblast.
